Wood Badge
Wood Badge, for the 21st century, is a training program that focuses on leadership and “people” skills. Participants will learn techniques to make them better leaders, and also how to lead groups to achieve objectives. The 21st Century Wood Badge incorporates the best of nearly a century of Scouting experience in addition to drawing upon the most current leadership models used by corporate America, academic circles, and successful outdoor leadership organizations throughout the country.
Skills developed from Wood Badge training will help a volunteer leader do a better job in any BSA program or at any level of involvement, and it's loads of fun!
Wood Badge uses the following themes:
Values
Models for Success
Project Planning
Managing Conflict
Leading Change
Problem Solving
Decision Making
Effective Listening
Effective Communication
Coaching and Mentoring
Team Development
Leadership Styles
Participants work together as patrols; take part in numerous activities, projects, games, discussions and presentations. During the first three days of the course, the training takes place in an indoor meeting environment, with meals provided and sleeping indoors. The last three days of the course are outdoors, at patrol campsites, with meals prepared by the patrols in the campsite and patrol members sleeping in tents.
