Twin Banks District News
Happy New Year, Twin Banks Scouters!!!
I hope everyone has made it through the past year’s holidays and are still keeping strong with their New Year’s resolutions. Here are a few quick updates for our District News!
First, we started our planning with a week-long camp the week of June 18th-22nd but when we received the opportunity to host our event at Mud Island we had to make a few changes due to Mud Island being closed on Monday’s. This will decrease our camp to four days which will now be June 19th-22nd. The hours of operation for the camp are still to be determined and we will be getting them out to the District when they are concrete.
Second, we would like to increase the amount of youth that attend our summer time events for our District and Council. With the opportunity to host an amazing Day Camp this summer, it would be unfortunate if we only have a small percentage of our boys receive the chance to participate in the event.
So what is the major contributing factor that decides whether or not our Scout’s parents will send their boy to Summer/Resident/Day camp? Typically it’s THE COST!!!
How can we deliver a quality program to our boy’s without bankrupting our parents? By offering options to help raise the funds for them to participate in the activities. The last few years the Council has tried to approach this concern by having a fundraiser called the “Camp Card” sale. This sale gives the Scout 50% of all the funds raised from these cards to go towards their cost of summer activities. The concept was a strong one and some of our Scouts were successful in the past. This year we were able to secure a major business that will make this card increase exponentially in value to our supporters. Kroger has accepted to offer a “$5 off of a $50 dollar purchase” incentive to add to our card. With this one discount, our card will give the entire investment back to those who purchase the $5 card. And, of course, this is just one of the many discounts on the card. Please look over the attached information and start planning on how you can use this fundraising opportunity to help your Scouts pay their own way to camp this year! We would like every unit to appoint a helper that we can contact with the information as the fundraiser starts and progresses.
And finally, Grace St. Luke’s unfortunately will not be able to host the Pinewood Derby on March the 10th due to Spring break plans so we are checking the availability for March the 3rd so please keep your eyes peeled for the new date in the next few weeks. There was also concerns with the cost of the event for our youth and with some quick and sharp budgeting efforts from some key volunteers, we are planning on decreasing the entrance fees to $5 for the races and $3 for the Best-n-Show. We hope that this decrease will increase the number of of Scouts that can participate in the event.I want to thank you all for your great work in helping developing a better program for our District and for our youth!
Yours in Scouts,
