OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Throughout its history, the Boy Scouts of America has been a leader in teaching young people to appreciate, conserve, and enjoy the outdoors. In Chickasaw Council we are proud to own and operate two beautiful camps. Camp is a vital Scouting experience.  It is one of the primary reasons boys join and remain in Scouting.  Clearly, camping continues to be the heart and soul of Scouting and is especially needed in the inner city.  Camping provides the best possible vehicle for achieving Scouting's goals for youth.  In a camp setting, a boy learns self-reliance, initiative, courage, resourcefulness, personal skills, teamwork, confidence,  a bright outlook for the future and personal values that last a lifetime.  Youth are attracted to camp because it is great fun; it presents a challenge, and provides an exhilarating experience.

CRIME PREVENTION

This program is designed to have law enforcement officers come talk with Scouts about crime prevention, gang awareness, how to report crime, and the role of law enforcement.  Because of Scouting’s long-time commitment to crime prevention, the Boy Scouts of America has a crime prevention program that features activities and projects that center on youth, family, community, and unit. Scouting also has a crime prevention merit badge that can be earned by Boy Scouts.

YOUTH PROTECTION

The program of the Boy Scouts of America has always been a safe place for youth. We are dedicated to making sure that it remains that way. Because of the concern we have for the problem of child abuse in society, our Boy Scout Youth Protection program is designed to safeguard both our youth and adult members.  Training is conducted on a regular basis for our sponsoring organizations and all volunteer and professional adult leaders. Our Youth Protection training, which is also used by other community organizations, teaches how to recognize physical, emotional, and sexual child abuse and how to report it.
