DeSoto County's first-ever community "praise garden" came to life Saturday as volunteers from throughout the area participated in planting its first crop.
"We're going to help feed the hungry with this," said volunteer Montee Boulware, Keep Horn Lake Beautiful chairwoman. "That's what this is all about, the community banding together and reaching out to help others in need."
Boy Scouts and residents from local churches, organizations and charitable groups helped sow nearly 300 plants, including cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, honeydew and watermelons into the 90-by-90-foot plot of land at Maxey Park, located behind the M.R. Dye Public Library in Horn Lake
