Community Partnerships
AFTER SCHOOL SCOUTING

After School Scouting program is a transitional program for Memphis City Schools and Memphis Catholic Schools K-5
students. The program operates within the school environment after class hours. The Scouting Program Specialists will lead the youths’ Scout meetings and will also reach into the community to develop volunteer leadership. The program instills the ideals of team spirit, group cooperation, citizenship training, character development, and physical fitness. Camping experiences are included in the program as well.
AGENCY PARTNERSHIPS
The Chickasaw Council Scout Reach Division partners with City of Memphis Park Services Department, Memphis Housing Authority, Salvation Army of Memphis, and neighborhood churches in Memphis and Shelby County to continue the mission of providing Scouting opportunities for all. The Council Scouting Program Specialists work with agency staff to offer the values of Scouting. Advancement, outdoor experience and transition to traditional, volunteer-run units are the long-term goal.
TENNESSEE WILDLIFE FEDERATION PARTNERSHIP

Great Outdoors University (GOU) is a youth conservation education program of the Tennessee Wildlife Federation, whose mission is to connect kids with the great outdoors in meaningful, lasting ways. GOU participants are youth from Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee, that would not learn about or experience of the great outdoors otherwise. GOU accomplishes its mission through conservation education, day field trips and overnight camping experiences. Council Scouting Program Specialists works with GOU staff to coordinate weekly field trips for the Scouts.
GOOD GUY MENTOR
The Chickasaw Council Scout Reach Division created a Good Guy Mentor program, because many of the boys in the Scout Reach Program come from single-parent homes where there is not necessarily a male role model with strong values and a commitment to the community. This program is designed to have positive, adult male role models such as firefighters, police officers, laborers, doctors, businessmen and other professionals to be “Good Guys” and visit Cub Scout Packs in the area and teach these Scouts about their profession, hobbies etc.
