About Us
The Chickasaw Council, Boy Scouts of America
(Council #558)
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
The Chickasaw Council serves youth in the Mid-South, covering 17 counties, including, Shelby County in Tennesseee, Crittenden County in Arkansas and these Mississippi counties; Bolivar, Carroll, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Humphries, LeFlore, Montgomery, Panola, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica, and Washington.
For over 100 years, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
As we celebrate 100 years of Scouting, we're gearing up for the next 100 years with strategic plans in motion to improve upon all that we do here locally. Please review our 2011 Annual Report as well as our 2009-2011 Strategic Plan. Part of the strategic plan included the formation of an active marketing committee, a Strategic and Integrated Marketing and Communications plan has been approved and is underway.
According to past surveys, improving communications and utilizing more updated technology were a few of the most expressed needs from the Council. The Strategic and Integrated Marketing and Communications plan addresses those needs, and will in turn help the Council with its goals of: improving awareness in the community, developing effective leadership, retaining and growing membership, increasing finance/development, cultivating and recognizing groups, improving camps, and overall making all efforts more respected and successful.
