2013 National Jamboree

Jamboree 2013 Update
MUST REGISTER NOW for 2013 Jamboree!
Forward to all Boys and Parents!
What an exciting way to begin a new century of Scouting by joining 50,000 Scouts from all fifty states of the United States in attending the first National Boy Scout Jamboree at its new permanent home “The Summit” located on the Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in Glen Jean, West Virginia.
This Jamboree will be more exciting than ever before with High Adventure, All-The-Time. Programs at Jamboree will run from daylight to dark. Whitewater sports, zip line canopy tours, climbing as well as activities such as shooting sports, scuba, cross country and downhill mountain biking, skateboarding, and BMX biking will make up a big part of the many exciting and challenging activities.
The Summit will also offer many of the traditional Scouting adventures such as nature and conservation studies and outdoor skills. The Jamboree will utilize technology at every possible level from registration through the entire event. The camping footprint (1,000 acres) will be much smaller than the former site (5,000 acres) which will reduce walking distance to program areas and arena shows.
Program will be more diverse, more intense, and have a higher energy level than previous Jamborees. Merit badges will be connected to the program areas which will allow greater participation. This Jamboree will use absolute best practices of eco-friendly camping by embracing conservation practices and Leave No Trace Camping. Venturers will also be allowed to participate in this Jamboree and will be camping in a “Venturing Village.”
The Chickasaw Council will be taking four (4) troops (144 Scouts and 16 leaders) so space is limited.
How do you sign up?
Here’s how:
1. It starts with you going to the
2013 National Jamboree website. Follow all instructions to register your Scout for the National Jamboree. Print your completed confirmation form and return it to the Scout Office OR a youth paper application has now been provided. Scouts may register to attend jamboree by filling out
this form.
2. Register your Scout on the Chickasaw Council's online payment system at this link. This will allow you to make deposits online without having to bring them to the Scout Office.
Now you are set to be on your way to Jamboree.
"See You At The Summit" in 2013 Scout Participant Qualification:
Must be at least 12 years of age by the first day of the Jamboree or an 11 year old that has graduated the 6th grade, but has not reached their 18th birthday by the last day of the Jamboree. How much does it cost to attend?
The Chickasaw Council Jamboree committee has set the fee at $1,600. A payment schedule has been set that spreads the payments over the next 15 months.
Why do I need to commit almost 1 1/2 years out?
Coordinating a trip of 160 persons from Memphis to West Virginia is no easy task. The Jamboree itself will have over 50,000 participants. All supplies are purchased well in advance of our arrival therefore we must make payments per attendee to the national office on a regular basis. Travel and sightseeing fees are also paid out over a year in advance.
